Vice President
Hugo Barra is Vice President in charge of Xiaomi's product portfolio and operations in all markets outside Mainland China.  He joined the company in October 2013 and is based in Beijing, China.

Before joining Xiaomi, Hugo Barra was Vice President of Android Product Management at Google, and was a member of the Android team since December 2010, based in Mountain View, CA.  In this role, he oversaw development of the Android operating system, Nexus device portfolio and several of Google's own Android apps.  Prior to joining the Android team, he worked for Google in London as Director of Product Management for Mobile Apps, a role he had since joining the company in March 2008.  

Prior to Google, Hugo was Director of Nuance Communications, where he co-founded the company’s mobile business unit, focused on mobile voice search and mobile voice messaging software products. During his nearly 5 years at Nuance, he held roles in product management and product marketing. He joined Nuance in 2003 after the company acquired LOBBY7, a Boston-based mobile software company that Hugo co-founded. LOBBY7 was an MIT Media Lab spin-off started in 2000 and was backed by SOFTBANK.

Earlier in his career, Hugo worked as a summer intern at Netscape Communications, Walt Disney Imagineering, Merrill Lynch, and McKinsey & Company.  

A native of Brazil, Hugo received a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT, as well as a bachelor's degree in management science from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. As a student, he worked as a research assistant at the MIT Media Lab and MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab, and he was MIT Senior Class President from 1999 to 2000.
